I've uploaded a snapshot of some of my recent programming efforts to allow 3D visualization of IVUS images. This is from an SFA stented artery. With additional refinements, I'm hoping we'll be able to better visulaize stent structures, obtain measurements, and use this to support modeling efforts.
Paul Bishop
Details of 3D-IVUS Post Processing:
400um thick IVUS cross sectional images, Approx 100um in plane resolution
Motorized Pullback device used to create series of evenly spaced images
Code by P. Bishop to convert IVUS imaging to DICOM dataset that is aliased as a CT scan allowing a software package such as TeraRecon to open using 3D viewing engine
TeraRecon allowed 3D visualization of Dataset with full suite of 3D viewing and measurement tools available
Still have calibration/verification efforts to validate
Future efforts to include testing with higher frequency IVUS transducer in hopes to further increase resolution.

Craig Suggestion: Can we get this DICOM dataset in raw format (perhaps .ZIP'ed and uploaded here) to explore in an open source 3D medical imaging application like OsiriX? http://www.osirix-viewer.com/
